Today I thought I'd share with you how you can make your very own cheese straws I have two ways to share and one is a lot quicker than the other however both methods are quick and easy and taste delicious!
Recipe 1 (Makes 50)
Ingredients
- 100g (4 oz) - Be-Ro Self Raising Flour
- Pinch - Salt
- Pinch - Mustard Powder
- 50g (2 oz) - Margarine
- 75g (3 oz) - Mature Cheddar or Red Leicester Cheese, grated.
- 1 Medium egg - Beaten.
Method
1. Preheat oven to 180ºC, 350ºF, Gas Mark 4.
2. Grease a baking tray.
3. Mix together the flour, salt and mustard.
4. Rub in the margarine.
5. Stir in the cheese and add sufficient egg to make a stiff dough.
6. Roll out very thinly and cut into strips.
7. Place on a baking tray.
8. Bake for 10-15 minutes.
Recipe 2
Ingredients
- Jus Rol puff pastry.
- A bag of mozzarella cheese.
- Be-ro self raising flour.
Method
1. Preheat oven to 180ºC, 250ºF, Gas Mark 4.
2. Add foil to a baking tray.
3. Get your Jus Rol puff pastry - if you wanting to make lots use the whole block otherwise cut into half and use one half.
4. Get your Be-Ro self raising flour and dust a little bit onto where you're baking.
5. Roll out the puff pastry with a rolling pin until it is quite thin.
6. Add your mozzarella cheese and fold the pastry over and roll it out so the cheese is in the pastry. Keep doing this till you have enough cheese in it.
7. Finally roll out the puff pastry and cut into strips.
8. Put them on a baking tray and put them into the oven.
9. Bake for 20 minutes.
